Location A Region Rich in History and Diversity

Utica/Rome is in the Mohawk Valley region of New York, in Oneida County, home to 234,000 people. The main campus is in Utica, a city of 60,000 people, and there is a branch campus in Rome, a city of 30,000 people. This region is steeped in history, with a location right along the historic Erie Canal.

Utica A Small City with Big Opportunities

Utica is a 45-minute drive east of Syracuse (Hancock International Airport) and 90 minutes west of Albany (Albany airport). The city has a surprising diversity for its size, thanks to a significant refugee resettlement program, which includes Bosnian, Karen/Burmese, and many other communities. There are 42 languages spoken in the school district, and 25 or so spoken at MVCC. Utica also boasts a diverse array of family-owned ethnic restaurants, bakeries, and breweries, as well as the 100-year-old Stanley Theater with Broadway season and national performers, the nationally recognized Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute, and the third-largest public park system in New York.

Rome A Hub of Business and Technology

Rome is home to a 70 employer/6,000 employee business and technology park on the site of the former Griffiss Air Force base and Strategic Air Command. The park is currently anchored by the $1B operation of the Air Force Research Lab and related cybersecurity companies and defense contractors.

Economic Development A Region on the Rise

The region is being transformed through the opening of a new $600M hospital in downtown Utica, the first, largest, and only silicon carbide factory in the world, several historic buildings renovated into downtown loft apartments, and several other exciting economic development activities, including the largest current project announced last fall for the $100M
