Utica/Rome is in the Mohawk Valley region of New York, in Oneida County, home to 234,000 people. The main campus is in Utica, a city of 60,000 people, and there is a branch campus in Rome, a city of 30,000 people. This region is steeped in history, with a location right along the historic Erie Canal.
Utica A Small City with Big Opportunities
Utica is a 45-minute drive east of Syracuse (Hancock International Airport) and 90 minutes west of Albany (Albany airport). The city has a surprising diversity for its size, thanks to a significant refugee resettlement program, which includes Bosnian, Karen/Burmese, and many other communities. There are 42 languages spoken in the school district, and 25 or so spoken at MVCC. Utica also boasts a diverse array of family-owned ethnic restaurants, bakeries, and breweries, as well as the 100-year-old Stanley Theater with Broadway season and national performers, the nationally recognized Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute, and the third-largest public park system in New York.
Rome A Hub of Business and Technology
Rome is home to a 70 employer/6,000 employee business and technology park on the site of the former Griffiss Air Force base and Strategic Air Command. The park is currently anchored by the $1B operation of the Air Force Research Lab and related cybersecurity companies and defense contractors.
