Program information
If you're looking for a solid foundation to begin a career in healthcare, MVCC's Health Science AS degree program will deliver, preparing you for further study in fields such as nursing, radiological technology, surgical technology, respiratory care, health information technology and biotechnology. The program meets the requirements of the SUNY Health Education Transfer Pathway, providing the first two years of a bachelor's degree for students interested in careers in community health, health education, health counseling, or public health.

Upon completion of the two-year program, students should be competent in the following areas:
- Identifying and accessing resources that provide accurate, evidence-based health information.
- Using critical thinking skills to analyze information related to health and wellness.
- Responding appropriately to people’s needs within diverse cultures and communities.
- Communicating effectively in various formats, which may include written, oral, and technology-related methods.
- Evaluating healthcare/community issues, options, and strategies related to quality of life, chronic disease, and death.

* Students who successfully complete the Health Science AS degree program at MVCC are eligible to transfer into Health Sciences at Utica University for an additional two years of study to earn a bachelor's of science degree. The program also articulates with the Health Education bachelor's degree programs at SUNY Cortland and SUNY Brockport.
