Care Team Branding

The Behavioral Evaluation Response Team (BERT) has been reimagined to become the Care Team because MVCC recognizes that behavior is often a reflection of underlying concerns, stressors, or unmet needs. Rather than approaching behavioral issues solely from a disciplinary or reactive standpoint, the Care Team model allows us to respond with empathy, support, and holistic understanding. By integrating behavioral intervention with wellness and concern-response efforts, we can more effectively address the root causes of behavior, promote personal growth, and create a safer, more supportive environment. This approach ensures that individuals are not only held accountable but also connected to the resources and care they need to thrive.

The MVCC Care Team takes a proactive, compassionate approach to identifying and addressing concerns related to student well-being and behavior. Grounded in a student-centered philosophy, the team works collaboratively to provide early, supportive interventions that prioritize personal well-being, academic success, and the overall safety of the campus community.

Through a multidisciplinary and inclusive process, the Care Team reviews referrals of student distress, disruptive behavior, or other concerning conduct and responds with individualized support plans. These plans may include mental health referrals, safety assessments, academic accommodation, or connection to campus and community resources—all delivered with empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity.

Operating with a strong commitment to confidentiality, equity, and compliance, the Care Team strives to ensure that every student has access to the support they need to thrive. In addition to direct intervention, the team also provides training and education to help faculty, staff, and students recognize and respond to early signs of concern, promoting a community-wide culture of care, connection, and prevention.
