Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Financial Aid, you must meet all of the following:

• You must have a high school diploma or GED.
• You must be matriculated (accepted into a degree or certificate program).
• You must be a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• You must annually complete required forms as requested.
• You cannot be in default of a student loan.
• You must be in compliance with the Standards of Academic Progress.

To continue to be eligible for financial aid:

In order to retain your eligibility to receive both federal financial aid and state grants, you must maintain both good academic standing and progress toward your degree or certificate. This is commonly referred to as Standards of Academic Progress. Failure to maintain the academic standards set by the federal government or the state may result in the loss of federal and/or state financial aid.

You must not owe any refunds on Pell Grants, or other awards made, or be in default on repayment of any student loan.

MVCC limits financial aid eligibility to two degree and/or certificate programs. The maximum credits that may be attempted at MVCC while remaining eligible for Financial Aid are 99 credit hours. 

Before receiving any financial aid funds in the form of a check, the Financial Aid Office checks attendance for students. If you get dropped from a class due to non-attendance, your financial aid will be adjusted. If you have been dropped from all classes, the Financial Aid Office will perform a Return to Title IV calculation and return any unearned financial aid.
