Student Leadership Academy - LEAD: Leadership, Education and Development

Presented by MVCC Student Engagement, the Sandy Cummings LEAD program is a two-part, strengths-based leadership experience designed to help students recognize what they do well and build on those strengths as they grow, connect, and make an impact. Whether you are stepping into leadership for the first time or building on experience you already have, LEAD provides practical tools, fresh perspectives, and meaningful opportunities to learn alongside other motivated students to become strong leaders.
Silver Series: Start Your Leadership Journey
The Silver Series is the foundation of the LEAD experience. Through engaging workshops, reflection, campus connections, and real-world leadership stories, students explore what leadership means and how it shows up in everyday life. The series helps participants recognize their strengths, communicate with confidence, work effectively with others, challenge bias, and lead with integrity.
What You’ll Gain

- Stronger communication, teamwork, and public speaking skills
- New perspectives on inclusion, empathy, careers, and community leadership
- Practical strategies you can use in the classroom, at work, and in student organizations

Program Schedule
The Student Leadership Academy meets once a week from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Dinner is provided
at each session.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the program, students must:
- Be enrolled full-time for the current semester
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, or an 85 high school average for new students
- Commit to attending weekly sessions
- Gold Series: Take Leadership Further
Gold Series: Your Leadership Journey Continues
After completing the Silver Series, students may be invited to continue into the Gold Series—the next stage of the LEAD journey. Gold is designed for students who are ready to move from learning about leadership to putting it into action through deeper exploration, greater responsibility, and purposeful engagement.
Silver builds the foundation. Gold challenges you to apply it.
