Offices/organizations that contribute to Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Workgroup: This Workgroup was founded to discuss issues of equity and inclusion regarding our LGBTQ community members. In addition to initiating important changes on the campus such as the Preferred Name procedures and the Gender-Neutral bathrooms on campus, it facilitates several events (films, talks, performances, and panel discussions) each year to highlight various issues surrounding sex and gender. A few examples of such events include showings of the AIDS quilt panels and a talk by a local quilter, a showing of the film “And the Band Played On” about the AIDS crisis, a Coming Out Day celebration with stories from our own community, and virtual participation in the ACR Health Hike for Life. This group also co-hosted a Pride event on campus in June of 2019 with the Interfaith Matters organization. This was the first large-scale Pride event in Utica in over 20 years.
