MVCC launched a volunteer project named iServe Mohawk Valley to address the rising issue of hunger in Rome, N.Y. This volunteer project will help cut back hunger and provide individuals with a fulfilling community work experience. Help raise awareness of what is happening in our own community by actively lending a helping hand.
iServe Mohawk Valley seeks to engage valuable volunteers who will combat hunger by preparing and serving meals, teaching nutrition classes, running community food drives, and more. iServe Mohawk Valley seeks to provide immediate nutrition to low-income resident, and allow our partnering agencies more time to provide their services that are less urgent but necessary to the community.
MVCC has partnered with Mother Marianne’s Westside Kitchen, Bread of Life, and The Rome Rescue Mission. iServe Mohawk Valley requires that volunteers complete an online orientation module that offers improvement to their community work skills. Upon completion of the orientation, volunteers will be matched with any of the above sites according to their skills, preferences, and the agencies' current needs.
Volunteers with any variety of skill sets willing to donate their time are needed. Welcomed skill sets include, but are not limited to:
- Carpentry
- Construction
- Cooking
- Education
- Health and Wellness
- Hospitality
- Human Services
- Marketing
- Nutrition
- Retail Store Assistance
Additional opportunities also can be found on MVCC's VolunteerMatch page.
