Traffic and Parking Citations:
Parking and Traffic citations are written as an enforcement method by the Department of Public Safety. If you receive a citation, it is important for you to follow up with the required steps to avoid further issues or increased fines.
Parking Citations:
Parking Citations may be isued by either Public Safety Officers or by Peace Officers for violations of Mohawk Valley Community College parking regulations.
Failure to address a parking citation may result in a fine which is doubled, denial of official transcripts, or denial of access to register for courses.
Traffic Citations:
Traffic Citations, or Uniform Traffic Ticket (UTT), may be issued by Peace Officers for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Failure to appear for a UTT may result in your driver's license being suspended.
The Department of Public Safety does not accept payment.
Fines are to be paid at the Payne Hall Business Office in person or by mail.
Make Check or Money Order payable to Mohawk Valley Community College.
Violators have the right to appeal a parking citation; the appeal form must be submitted within ten (10) days from the date of the violation.
Appeal forms are available at:
- The Utica Department of Public Safety Office, Academic Building room 106 , or
- The Rome Department of Public Safety Office, Plumley Complex room 118 , or
- Online in the forms and resources page.
A UTT cannot be appealed through the Department of Public Safety because a UTT is a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
A UTT is handled through the appropriate Court; the citation will have instructions to appear in person or send in by mail your plea to the appropriate Court.
