Meet the Career Transition Program Staff
Andrew Carpenter-Brockway
Director, Pre-Employment Transition Services
With extensive experience in public education, Andrew oversees a range of services
designed to assist students with disabilities in overcoming employment barriers. His
leadership focuses on building individualized programs that empower students, helping
them develop essential skills, explore career opportunities, and transition smoothly
into the workforce. Andrew holds a bachelor's degree in Business, a master's degree
in Education, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in School District Business Leadership.
He also has the NYS Credential for Work-Based Learning. In addition to his role at
MVCC, Andrew brings entrepreneurial experience as the broker and owner of a local
real estate brokerage. This diverse background gives him a unique perspective on the
skills needed for professional success and the importance of mentorship. Outside of
work, Andrew enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and relaxing
at home with his significant other and two golden retrievers.
Karin Salas
Coordinator, Pre-Employment Transition Services
Karin Salas is a passionate Career Transition Program Coordinator with over 20 years
of experience in the education field. Holding a BA in Social Work and an MA in Special
Education, she brings a unique perspective to her role, empowering individuals to
navigate career changes with confidence and clarity.
Dedicated to creating tailored programs that equip clients with the skills and tools needed to thrive in today’s dynamic job market, Karin is also committed to giving back to her community. She volunteers at Literacy CNY and knits winter hats for children in need. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, and connecting with friends and family.
Sara Miller
Applied Learning Coordinator
Originally from Central New York, Sara returned to the Utica area in 2011 after completing
her bachelor's degree in history from SUNY Cortland and master's degree in history
from Indiana University. In addition to her role in the Career Development Center,
Sara has close to 10 years of experience working in higher education in various capacities
— teaching, as an admissions counselor, and as the coordinator of international student
services at MVCC. As the liaison to the School of Public and Human Services, Sara
enjoys the opportunity to connect with regional employers and organizations while
working with students in creating a fulfilling career path. Sara, her husband, and
their two kids enjoy all that the area has to offer, from snowboarding and hiking
to art and music shows, and good food.
