Get college credit for what you already know
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) offers students the opportunity to earn college credit by demonstrating personal knowledge of introductory-level college course content by taking CLEP Exams. Use your existing knowledge to progress more quickly through your degree program by earning CLEP credit.
CLEP Exam details
- There are 34 exams covering a variety of introductory-level college course content
- Most CLEP Exams take approximately 90 to 120 minutes to complete
- Exam scores are received immediately after test completion (except for College Composition)
- Testing is offered year-round at official CLEP testing centers

Take your CLEP Exam at MVCC
CLEP Exams can be taken at the MVCC Testing Center on the Utica Campus. The Testing Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tests are scheduled based on availability. To schedule your CLEP Exam, call the Testing Center 315-731-5802 or email Nicole Benton.
Please note: There is a non-refundable $35 proctoring fee for non-MVCC students (payable on the day of the exam via cash or card).
How to sign up for a CLEP Exam
- Go the CLEP website to complete registration and pay.
- Print your Test Ticket and contact the MVCC Testing Center to schedule your exam (call 315-731-5802 or email nbenton@mvcc.edu).
- Receive a confirmation email from the CLEP Test Administrator confirming the details of your appointment.
