Coromato will be responsible for the proper administration and efficient operation of the security and safety functions at Mohawk Valley Community College to assure a proper atmosphere for the pursuit of the educational objectives of the campus community. He will provide vision, leadership, and direction and supervise the daily activities of the security force; develop training programs for the public security personnel and College employees; and provide a liaison between the public security office and various outside agencies.

Coromato comes to MVCC from Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., where he was the Associate Director of Campus Safety. He served with the Utica Police Department for 22 years, concluding his career in 2023 as a Captain and Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. He began as a patrol officer, progressed to an investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division (CID), and was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant before ultimately achieving the rank of Captain.

“We’re very excited to have Chief Coromato in this critically important leadership role at MVCC. He brings tremendous experience, skill, and energy to the work, and is already adding great value in keeping the College’s Campus and Public Safety Department at the forefront of practice in the field,” said MVCC President Dr. Randall J. VanWagoner.

Reflecting on his new role, Coromato said, “It is a great honor to come back home and serve my community again. I am very grateful to President VanWagoner, Vice President Thomas Squires, and the entire MVCC community for this opportunity. MVCC’s Department of Public Safety is exceptional, and I am very excited to work with this team to ensure the safety of the MVCC community and enhance the MVCC experience for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. I do not think this opportunity would be possible without the high level of training and experience that I was privileged to gain working for the Utica Police Department under the mentorship of Chief Mark Williams along with my recent experience in higher education at Colgate University. I want to thank Colgate University and their leadership team for the opportunity to work and learn in the unique realm of higher education.”

Coromato holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University, a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Utica University, and an associate degree in Criminal Justice from MVCC. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session #284.
