Mohawk Valley Community College will host a series of hands-on workshops this spring, covering topics like houseplant care, culinary knife skills, and cupcake decorating. Tickets for all events can be purchased through the MVCC Box Office at mvcc.edu/tickets

  • Intro to Knife Skills — 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025, in the Culinary Lab, Plumley Complex room 134, at MVCC's Rome Campus. Led by Chef Dustin Swiss, this workshop will teach essential cutting techniques and safe handling practices that will build culinary confidence. Tickets, which are limited, are $10 for the public, $5 for MVCC employees, and free for MVCC students.
  • Glass Tealight Holder Workshop — 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Wilcox Hall room 225 at MVCC's Utica Campus. Join Penny and Marie of Songbyrd Street Studios and decorate your own glass tealight holder. All glass will be fired in their kiln after class and will be available for pickup on April 2 at the MVCC Box Office. Tickets are $30 for the public, $25 for MVCC employees, and free for MVCC students.
  • Cupcake Decorating Workshop — 6 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025, in the Campus Bake Shop, Plumley Complex room 135, Rome Campus. Learn to decorate spring cupcakes using simple techniques in this workshop led by Chef Jen Schuler. Tickets are $10 for the public, $5 for MVCC employees, and free for MVCC students.
  • Houseplants 101 — 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Wilcox Hall room 225, Utica Campus. Join Upstate New York traveling shop, The Plant Stand, for a special Earth Day workshop designed to build skills in caring for houseplants. Explore lighting and watering techniques, replanting, and propagation, and repot a 4-inch plant to take home. Tickets are $30 for the public, $20 for MVCC employees, and free for MVCC students.
