Mohawk Valley Community College once again was the top-scoring team in the Fall Math League Contest held by the New York State Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (NYSMATYC). This outstanding achievement builds on MVCC’s remarkable success as the top-scoring team in the 2022 contest and sets a new milestone for the College.
This year's contest saw even greater accomplishments: MVCC student Carter Poland's exceptional performance earned the highest individual score, and Team MVCC secured the top overall score among 23 participating two-year colleges across New York State.
A total of 102 students from 23 two-year colleges participated in the competition. MVCC led the way with a team score of 138, followed by Nassau Community College with 136, and LaGuardia Community College with 130.

- Dominick Gratch of Rome, N.Y. — 28 points
- Eric Creekmore of Rome, N.Y. — 22 points
- Wyatt Kurtyka of Sauquoit, N.Y. — 21 points
- Arbab Ousman of Utica, N.Y. — 14 points
- William Wilcox of Clinton, N.Y. — 14 points
About NYSMATYC
The NYSMATYC Math League Contest is held twice a year, in the fall and spring, at two-year college campuses across New York State. Students take a timed exam consisting of approximately 20 challenging questions (80 points), with each college’s top five scores contributing to the team total. In the spring, the combined fall and spring scores determine the champion college for the academic year. Awards are presented at the NYSMATYC Annual Conference in April.
