Program Information
If you enjoy working with maps, computers, and technology, a career in geospatial technology might be perfect for you. This program, with its emphasis on field and laboratory experience in addition to theory, will prepare you for the next step on that path, whether you plan to further your education or start your career in this diverse field. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a powerful computer mapping application that involves storing, editing, analyzing, and viewing geospatial data. It is used in various industries, including transportation, environmental studies, surveying, urban planning and management, epidemiology and healthcare, engineering, and homeland security.
Upon completion of the two-year program, students should be competent in all of the following areas:
- Proficiency with common applications geospatial technology
- Ability to enter the field of geospatial technology
- Complete maps using standard GIS techniques
- Successfully interact with others through drawings and other technical means.
- Communicate effectively
- Quantitatively analyze common GIS problems.
- Demonstrate information literacy
