This microcredential will provide a second-year capstone for our fashion design students as well as a credential for those looking to improve their fashion design skills for employment. It also allows students to gain additional skills towards portfolio preparation and coursework towards transfer. Students completing this microcredential will acquire skills in fashion design production, advanced construction skills, and forecasting. This is the second of two microcredentials in fashion design.

Course List (3)

Pattern Making FD201 3 cr.

This course covers the theory, role, scope, and practice of pattern making. Emphasis is placed on the design principles utilized in pattern making, the utilization of computer-aided design, understanding measurement, alterations, and contouring. It further investigates approaches to design interpretation for prototypes.

Apparel 3: Design & Construction FD202 3 cr.

This course covers the theory, role, scope, and practice of apparel design. Emphasis is placed on the development of design to production, researching fashion, and prototyping techniques. It further investigates advanced approaches to draping, concepting, and completing finished garments.

Fashion Design Seminar FD203 3 cr.

This course covers the theory, role, scope, and practice of professional practices in the fashion industry. Emphasis is placed on fashion portfolio development, advanced fashion illustration, product development, apparel manufacturing, and entrepreneurship techniques. It further investigates approaches to production, distribution, and sales.
