This microcredential will provide a first-year achievement for Theater Arts majors
as well as a credential for those looking to improve their theater skills. Students
develop skills in acting, performance, and technical theater while building portfolios
and completing coursework for transfer. This is the first of two microcredentials
in Theater Arts.

This course introduces the fundamental principles of acting for the stage. Topics
include relaxation techniques, energy and focus, stage sense, and improvisation. Through
physical, emotional, and imaginative exercises, students develop the skills needed
to prepare for performance.
Acting 2: Characterization and Scene StudyTH1923 cr.
This course focuses on the development of character within specific textual contexts.
Students will analyze, rehearse, and perform roles from written text, with emphasis
on physical and emotional expression in acting.
Introduction to the TheaterTH1933 cr.
This course introduces the foundations of theater art, with emphasis on the theatrical
production process. Topics include theater spaces, directing, acting, scenic design,
and professional opportunities in the field. Theater experiences from the Greek festival
theater to the present are discussed.
Technical TheaterTH1943 cr.
This course provides an introduction to the theory and practice of stage craft. Topics
include construction, costumes, scene painting, and the mounting and rigging of scenery.
Other learning opportunities are incorporated depending on individual production requirements.
