This microcredential provides a second-year capstone for Motion Media majors and offers a valuable credential for those seeking to improve their skills for employment. It helps students build their portfolios and complete coursework beneficial for transfer programs. Students will develop advanced skills in Adobe After Effects, Animate, and 3D content creation. This is the second of two microcredentials in Motion Media.

Motion Media 2: 4D Design MM201 3 cr.

This course explores the theory, role, scope, and practice of 4D design, introducing students to the creation of time-based artwork. Topics include UV unwrapping, modeling, lighting, and animation, with emphasis on producing animated graphics.

Motion Media 3: Animation Design MM202 3 cr.

This course covers the theory, role, scope, and practice of animatics, focusing on creating animated cinematics that communicate effectively with an audience. Students will explore approaches to cut scenes, rotoscoping, and environmental settings, with emphasis on foundational 2D animation techniques.

Storyboarding CG146 3 cr.

This course introduces the principles and techniques of creating storyboards for animation, multimedia, and filmmaking. Students will learn scriptwriting and fundamental storyboarding practices using traditional techniques. Emphasis is placed on applying drawing skills and composition to depict locations, cinematography, sound, special effects, and character actions, creating fluid storylines across a variety of genres. Students will become proficient visual communicators for industry applications, including animated films, cartoons, commercials, documentaries, live-action features, instructional videos, and video games.

Motion Media 4: Character Animation Seminar MM203 3 cr.

This course examines the theory, role, scope, and practice of professionalism in the motion media and 2D animation industry. It covers presentation techniques and advanced methods for computer graphics animation production. Emphasis is placed on completing a major capstone computer graphics project and developing a professional demo reel. Students will explore portfolio and demo reel development, industry practices in motion media production, and the cultivation of their individual style and approach to motion media.
