This microcredential provides a first-year achievement for Motion Media majors, as well as a valuable credential for those looking to improve their skills for employment. It helps students build their portfolios and complete coursework beneficial for transfer. Students will gain skills in 2D animation principles, as well as introductory use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. This is the first of two microcredentials in Motion Media.

General Drawing FA101 3 cr.

This course introduces the tools, media, and theory used to create a drawing. It includes the fundamentals of perspective, the theory of light and shade, and a survey of graphic representation. Projects focus on proportion and placement, volume and structure, and value with tone.

Figure Drawing 1 FA103 3 cr.

This course provides an introduction to drawing the human figure, focusing on the body’s geometric and anatomical structure. Classroom work consists of drawing from a live model and plaster sculpture casts, with an emphasis on hierarchy of form. Studio work is supplemented by lectures and critiques on the principles of accurate representation of the human form, including gesture, proportion, anatomy, and light.

Digital Applications 1 GD145 3 cr.

This course introduces contemporary text manipulation, digital imaging, and digital illustration software. Student projects demonstrate knowledge of both the software and the interfaces between page layout, raster graphics, and vector graphics. No previous software knowledge is required.

Motion Graphics CG214 3 cr.

This course provides an introduction to methods for producing motion graphics. Through problem-solving and hands-on projects, students learn to plan, storyboard, sequence, and compose designs for multimedia production. Topics include image manipulation, production timelines, graphical requirements, and designing still images integrated with the aesthetic principles of 2D, 3D, and 4D design in a studio environment.

Motion Media 1: Fundamentals MM101 3 cr.

This course covers the theory, role, scope, and practice of fundamental multimedia technologies, focusing on creating motion media that communicates effectively with an audience. Students will examine both traditional and digital animation techniques, with an emphasis on producing animated content.
